A call came into 9-1-1 around 5:40 AM this morning (Monday, 9/18) about a disturbance at 5102 Walnut Hills Dr in the Sand Creek Village subdivision. Once HPD - Kingwood patrol units arrived, they learned that one of the residents of the home, a 22-year-old male, was threatening suicide by knife. The male subject had been receiving help at a mental health facility but left before his treatment was completed.

atrol officers attempted to talk the subject out of the home since there were other family members present, but they ultimately called upon SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) to deescalate the situation.Once HNT & SWAT were on the scene, they were able to get the man to come to the back door. They could see he had a knife in his hand and observed multiple cuts on his wrists. An HPD negotiator was able to talk him into dropping the knife, and the subject was then taken into custody. The on-scene physician (SWAT & HNT always have one with them) evaluated the subject's injuries, he was taken to the hospital via ambulance. "It's a great day when everyone is safe after a situation like this," said HPD-Kingwood Captain Jacob Atkins. "I'm happy that this young man will be getting the treatment he needs." It was later discovered that the 22-year-old had ingested a large quantity of prescription drugs and some sort of cleaning liquid. He is expected to recover though, thanks to the quick actions of emergency personnel. EDITOR'S NOTE: To answer the question that's going to and has already been asked multiple times about why the school wasn't put on lockdown..."A perimeter was in place and there was no danger to anyone in the surrounding community," stated HPD spokesman Kese Smith. "Even though police vehicles were still on scene, the subject was taken into custody well before school began." 4951
