Westinghouse dual fuel model Wgen12000dfc. 400lb paperweight.

I purchased this unit new about three months ago as my primary backup generator. I finished my project just in time for hurricane Beryl. It ran my entire home with ease for the first 12 hours. I'd calculate that I was barely pulling a 30% load on that beast with my AC, fridge, freezer, lights, TV, etc.

I started it at 3 PM and it quit on me at 3 AM. It's totally dead. It would start for 2 seconds, backfire, and shut down.

I switched to propane thinking that maybe somehow the jets in the carb picked up some trash for the gasoline (very doubtful). It did the same thing when hooked to propane too.

I have reached out to Westinghouse but have not heard back from them yet. Talk about disappointment in a product. I would have more faith in a Toyota Corolla with 300K miles on it than I have in this brand new generator.

I forsee a bunch of generators on fakebook market place

Runs good been in storage a while only needs new gas and a battery

Oh, you know that's going to happen. I left a one-star review on their website for this generator and they responded to my review almost immediately stating that this isn't typical but there's an obvious quality control problem because it happened to more than one person (same problem).

They asked me to send them an email (left an email address for me) in their response to my review to "escalate" my issue. Well, that was last Thursday and I still haven't heard from them. They stated that they "want to make this right".

I have my definition of what "making this right" is so let's see if they agree with me. I want this hunk of junk taken away and replaced with their new tri-fuel model.

You're telling me. I thought I was going to be sitting this power outrage out in comfort. This was a very hard lesson learned for me. I mean, I should have been able to put faith into a brand-new generator that is literally designed to have a 3000-hour lifespan.

Is it fuel injection? If so maybe needs a new battery?

That's very interesting. We bought a dual fuel Westinghouse generator, 9500/7500,a few weeks before the storm. It will not run more than one thing at a time. I thought we had maybe set it up wrong but also could be defective. We will be calling the Warranty on it after this is all said and done.

No, it has a carburetor and the battery is new. I pulled the battery when I received it and put a full charge on it.

I have 2 Sears Craftsman generators more than 20 years old.neither has ever failed to start or produce power.

I think they will take me through the rest of my life..one is running now and has been performing well the outage started.

Not the fanciest or the largest. Just reliable equipment.

@toneyc : My neighbors was a brand new Westinghouse. Let me see if it is the same one. If so..I will let them know your experience.

That would be the only thing I could accept. If you're going to manufacture such a critical piece of equipment then it should work, period, but to have it fail after a measly 12 hours is just unacceptable to me.
