More water damage in the house...
This time, we were not displaced for 6 months like last time...
This is more of a plumber praise/recommendation/suggestion...
So Tuesday, 1/30, we got home from my kiddos sports practices and everyone was showering while I was getting the gear put away...I walk to the front foyar when I hear a dripping...steady dripping...and I look up and I can see the water spot and water attempting to come through on the ceiling. My heart sank...
When everyone came down, I investigated further and realized it was the shower... because as soon as the water shut off, the dripping subsided...
So, I'm off to call my trusty friend
@Clloresch, who works for a water mitigation company, and she lines me out with exactly what I need to do.
Within a couple of days, the team is out there, and the house is drying. Yay. By Monday 2/5 the house is dry!
Next comes the plumber's....I called Jared's plumbing initially, no call out fee but the quote for repairs (replacing the water nozzle where you turn the water on and off...the house was built in the 80's so it's old) would be around $1000, for the one. I thought to myself for a while, and it seemed high....yes, they would have to remove tile as there is no access to the back side... but still....and then I'd have to repair the wall and replace the tile myself.
2nd Plumber, Bee Dependable, I contacted via phone and sent pictures because they have a $165 call out fee. He was able to diagnose and quoted me $725 for full nozzle replacement...on the 1 shower, but he had a tile guy (if available (and yes I called the tile guy and he is 5 weeks our)) that would remove and replace the tile (still my cost). Sweetness...yay!
3rd plumber, Genesis, Larry comes out on 2/7...$35 call out fee...and he investigates and informs me that there is no need to replace the whole nozzle thingy...he can get the parts...makes some phone calls and we are scheduled to do the work the next morning.
The following day, after replacing the guts, Larry realizes that is not sufficient as he cannot get it to cleanly shut off, and believes the previous homeowners may have already replaced the guts before due to some of the wearing on the internal parts. So he proceeds to go above and beyond and comes out later that day and completely replaces the plumbing (yes, removing the tile in 1 bathroom and sheetrock in the other) and sets me up with new water turner onner thingy...(yes, i know there is a technical name, but I can't think right now...I'm on nights and exhausted)...in both of my upstairs bathrooms so we won't run into a similar issue with that one due to their age...and his cost for both, was slightly higher than the quote I got from the first plumber I called that was only going to replace the one.
Yes, i still have tile work to complete...and some sheetrock work too...but at least I know my plumbing is correct in both showers. Currently, I am waiting on a few estimates from General Contractors to get the showers back in 100% working order...we are also having a hard time finding matching-ish tile, go figure...and it may end up being complete replacements of the tile surround...but hopefully we are nearing the end...
Anywho, back to the initial topic about plumbers....We've all likely had to use one in our homes, and we have a reason for who we choose to do the work...but this is to encourage you to do your due diligence and get multiple quotes, especially for the bigger jobs.
The recommendations here on KDC are great, and your reasoning behind your recommendations is sooo appreciated...it's truly the reason why I called the 3 plumbers I called...but ultimately my gut told me which one to go with, and not solely baised on price...but it was a definite factor.
Looking forward to having my home back in working order (everyone showering in my shower is annoying....and kids are gross
...but we are good, and all will be great in the end!
Have a blessed and beautiful week KDC! Much Love!
