We bought one at Lowes tonight. Will this pot be big enought for it to mature in, or do we need to get bigger?

Bigger. Also, They grow champion thorns. Can you put it in the ground?

@Brat :
Pot is big enough, but I always put a small trellis in the pot to support it!

Be careful on the size. That looks like it could be a beanstalk plant and some don't like it if they have to replant it too soon!

@Brat :
Pot size is fine. Flowering vines like tight roots so they can put energy on growing vines and flowering. As noted, get a trellis for the vines to climb. And feed it regularly since it flowers a lot. Something like super bloom.

My mom put one on a pergola on her patio. She trimmed it after it grew out and it looked really beautiful!

@Brat :
The deeper the better. ( I am talking about the vessel for the plant) ; ) Looks nice! You can get some clear wire, or fishing wire, as it is very fine, and be able to twist-tie it on the trellis, as it grows, so you can direct the path of the vines .

@Brat : I think the pot will be fine. Bougainvillea is beautiful, but, I have a love/hate relationship with it. Be sure to wear long thick leather gloves each time you prune it. They are wicked!
