@Txbutterfly :
I saw a video of some young ones playing in a mud hole, and one of the facts listed was that all nine banded armadillos are born as identical quadruplets. I thought that was quite interesting!

My sister has one that keeps digging up her flower bed and ate all the gladiolus bulbs, he stops to say hi and she is NOT impressed 😀 I've just never seen one at noon

@butterflygarden : I wish we didn't have them, but our yard gets all of those critters. On Saturday mid-afternoon I opened our front door and startled a family of raccoons strolling past our door. Three fluffy little young'uns hurried up the tree that is right there, while mama raccoon dashed off to the side but paused and waited for the three little ones. Those three looked at me with great apprehension, but as I stood still after a minute or two the lower two little raccoons backed down the tree trunk and ran to join their mother. The smallest raccoon who was farthest up the tree could not decide what to do, what to do? Finally she scrabbled down the tree, turning her head several times to be sure I wasn't moving nearer. Near the ground she jumped onto the ground and dashed to join her waiting family. They were so cute, very sweet little raccoons. But what were they doing, going out for a stroll in the mid-day sun?

@Txbutterfly : We were camping decades ago and I out a plate of leftover spaghetti and meat sauce on the edge of the woods to see what would come by and eat it. Well an Armadillo did! Sucked every noodle! It was so funny!

@Txbutterfly :
Armadillos are death to a yard. I hate their digging.

@HappyHerself :
I know that momma raccoons will forage during the day because it is safer than leaving the babies alone at night to look for food, but I have never seen one with her babies out during the day. Maybe she felt they were no longer safe where they'd been hiding out, or their hidy hole may have gotten too hot.

When we first moved to Kingwood, I woke one night to what sounded like a bunch of monkeys in the back yard. Well, we had a loquat tree that was full of ripe fruit, and there were at least 8 raccoons out there eating the fruit and swimming in the pool. All I could do was laugh because I'd never seen such a thing!

Son was running the other morning and saw two armadillos. They had no fear of him.

@butterflygarden : That makes sense, thanks! I had thought raccoons were totally nocturnal.
