Tamales - Di Maria on WLHP

Well, this is the first year that we got on the tamale bandwagon and it was too late for Kingwood Taco Shop and Granny's wasn't open. We knew that Di Maria was open today and is OPEN all day for Christmas tomorrow - 11am - 8pm. Alejandro was awesome!

Attached are some pictures which gives you an idea on size etc. We thought that they were pretty good sized and the weight was 4.5 oz without the husk and 6.0 oz with it on.

We got a dozen with 6 of pork/red and 6 of chicken. I liked them both and couldn't figure out a favorite. @BrendaT likes hers with chile and I like to do mine plain. They were yummy and we have leftovers!!!

Well, might have to make tamales a new holiday tradition @Greentreemom.

Those tamales look great. We had tamales from KTS yesterday. I had never of tamales for Christmas until I moved to Houston. We enjoy the tradition.

Yes, I know you like KTS and Di Maria is a little more direct for us drivewise. I do like the back story of KTS. Just thought that we would let others know about another option. Then we got doubly blessed because a friend of ours called us up and gave us a dozen pork and chicken each, some wonderful Mexican Christmas punch and and some delicious Posole Chicken soup! I didn't have to make any decisions for dinner as we are flying solo tonight!

Year one of new tradition!

Going over to DD, SIL and the G-Kids in Sugar Land tomorrow!

Have a great Eve and Day tomorrow celebrating our Savior's birth!!!

Enrique gave me a whole history lesson about tamales a while back. The kind of tamales you got are southern Mexico tradition.Enrique hates those kind because they use way too much masa and dont cook all the way theough.

Absolutely agreed - options are good. We actually considered picking up from De Maria's tomorrow but decided otherwise. We will give them a try soon tho. I have seen pictures of several dishes from there I want to try.
