Guys need to be seeing a dermatologist if they have thinning or balding heads. My hubby is very bald and has been since he was in his 20s. Last trip in for a skin check up, she inspected his head and it was covered with little pre-cancers all over. In the past whichever dermatologist he saw would freeze/burn the pre-cancer off, but there is now a cream that can be spread over the bald head and it will take care of the cancers all at once. It's not comfortable and it's not pretty, but the end result is all the pre-cancers are gone. Ten days of twice a day application, washing the head with a gentle soft cloth and mild soap (no shampoo during the treatment), flaking skin, ugly redness - but the result was baby-butt new skin on his bald head. Then, he got to repeat it again 6 weeks later. He said he would rather do it this way than the frequent freezing/burning of individual spots.
Women with thinning hair or alopecia can also get cancers on their scalp. Both males and females should have family members check their skin for any irregularities. My beautician friend tells me that she looks carefully at the skin on her customers and has sent several to the doctor for something she finds odd. 4951
