@Trish1450 : Yikes!! I'm glad they caught it and removed it. But it looks like they took a pretty big chunk by the size of the bandage. I hope they got clean margins! 4951

PSA: watch those odd skin growths people who sunbathed with baby oil

@Trish1450 : Thank you! Indeed that is a public service to alert us to pay attention to odd skin growths. I remember sunbathing with baby oil -- "everybody" did that, as I recall. At least quite a lot of us stretched out on beach towels, usually by a pool but not always, and slathered on baby oil. Now and then you would turn over and repeat on the other side. Fortunately I often got bored and got into the pool to swim instead. But over several years I did get many hours of suntanning that I wish now I had not done. 4951

@Trish1450 : My mother has Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Her first surgery was in 1998. She goes to the dermatologist every 6 months and has had many surgeries since then. The squamous is always on her face, right side. Basal Cell too but it does not seem to always be on the same side. I'm telling you this because you have to be very vigilant especially about the Squamous Cell. It seems like you never really get rid of it and it pops up often. My dad had a spot that was melanoma about 10 years ago so he also goes to the dermatologist every six months. They go before the 6-month appointment if they notice something different.

I am glad you went and had it taken care of and I hope they were able to get all of it the first time so you will not have to have another surgery. 4951

@HappyHerself : We did the same thing and because of our parent's skin cancer we have learned that we also have to visit the dermatologist yearly. 4951

@TEXASGIRLMAMMA : this is my first with the Sq variety. Several Basals removed prior. All on my face (sigh) . But now I will keep better watch as the Sq type is so quick to spread. This one grew up between my every 6 month appointment! 4951

@Trish1450 : You look like you have very fair skin, which I'm sure didn't help much. I hope you have a speedy recovery and that they removed it all. 4951

Had a LARGE basal cell diagnosed on my arm. The surgery left an 8" scar. At the same time I had a SQ diagnosed on the other wrist. Burn and scrape on that one as it was small.

But, point taken. Get your "small" skin irregularities checked out. 4951
