@luannski : The hurricane was hundred of miles south of Maui. The winds that spread the fire were from the north, not from the hurricane. Life on Maui is considerably different than life in the Houston metroplex.

Maui Group Anonymous member • 2h. m SHARE!!! Just reported from a whistleblower:: X What your not hearing from our local government Ijust got out of a meeting where I was informed by someone in the Mavors office about developments that are being kept from the public. lam not a conspiracy theorist and I don't want to make trouble but here's what I've heard. The amount of fatalities is expected to be more than 500 but less than 1000. Many of the fatalities will be children who were at home because they canceled school. Parents worked and were not there to evacuate the children. Kids had no idea they needed to leave and by the time they noticed their homes or apartments were on fire, it was too late. The government is worried about how we will react when we learn that the fire department left the fire earlier in the day and claimed it was 100% contained knowing that the winds were expected to be 70mph by the afternoon. This is against all fire control protocols. The fire department should not have left the original fire unattended. They are scared that the public calls for accountability will be more than they can control and protests and riots will occur. They plan to lock down Lahaina for several months. It will take months to clean up the hazardous and environmental contamination. They won't have enough housing for All the displaced. There were 2,000 unaccounted for this morning. They have a list where they are trying to keep track. They found 700 today. But there are still 1300 missing.

@PeterBee : None of this is verified. It seems suspicious to me that in the midst of total chaos they know it's going to be more than 500 but less than 1000??

luannski : The hurricane was 500 miles away.

@MissAmericanPie : If the Hurricane was 500 miles away why was school canceled?
There was footage of high waves on the news right where all the people were going into the water to get away from the fire.

@MissAmericanPie : -I read that too, but if even a part of that bulletin was correct about children home alone. If not, karma will get the liar eventually.

MissAmericanPie : -They obviously didnt have an evacuation route mapped out or anybody really thought about it.

@PeterBee :
On the Lahaina side of the island, there is only one road that can be an evacuation route. Going back toward Kihei, the road is a paved 2 lanes but to try to evacuate north thru Kaanapali and around to Kahului would be logistically nearly impossible due to the narrowness, the dropoffs, the cliffs and turns. In some places, there is only improved gravel.

@luannski :
Bc of the fires. There was an atmospheric condition from the winds and heat that caused the fires.

From Reuters:
WHAT'S DRIVING THE HAWAII WILDFIRES?

Winds from Hurricane Dora, hundreds of miles southwest of the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean, have fanned the flames across the U.S. state, officials say.

In addition to Dora, a low-pressure system to the west near Japan is also contributing to the high sustained winds. Dry vegetation is also a contributing factor.

The spread of flammable non-native grasses such as Guinea grass in areas of former farmland and forest have created large amounts of small, easily ignited materials that increase the risk and severity of fire. Such grasses comprise 26% of Hawaii, according to Pickett.

MissAmericanPie : -It was south of Hawaii,but those islands felt the force of those winds, a glancing blow they called it.

@PeterBee : They weren't hit by the hurricane but even at that distance the winds they did get were part of the perfect storm of conditions for a fire. So sad and awful but not preventable it seems

Just slow it down and stop promoting vague conspiracy rumors. The point right now is to find the missing, bury the dead and then start looking into what happened and why. Meantime people need places to live, jobs or means to support themselves and some kind of view to the future.. This is going to take awhile to get answers.
