Please pray for the fires in Louisiana. This past week fires in Sabine, Vernon, and Beauregard Parishes have been devastating. I grew up in that area and have family and friends there. They are pretty much dependent on volunteer firefighters as most of the areas are unincorporated. There has been some help sent from Baton Rouge. A retired missionary (that I know) in his 70s is one of the volunteers.

My parents live on Toledo Bend lake and the Sabine fire burned about a dozen homes in their neighborhood. Thankfully they are on a peninsula and it passed them by without burning down their home. This was Friday afternoon. They haven't had rain at their place since early May.

Their neighbor came over and banged on their door Friday around mid-day as the sheriff's department announced a mandatory evacuation. They barely had enough time to grab their dog, their medicine, and a phone charger before heading out. They parked on the side of the highway a few miles down and watched the forest service aircraft and local FD fight the fires and were so lucky to have their home spared. They just moved there full time in June to enjoy retirement and almost lost it all!

Oh wow! We lived in St. Tammany Parish while hubby worked offshore-love love love the people in Louisiana!

@Kittle : Sorry your family is experiencing this, prayers for you and yours. I love the people in Louisiana, such an interesting place. I was born and raised there and I really miss the food and the people.

@Donnawisdom : You and I grew up in the same state but two totally different cultures. You had the French influence in south Louisiana and I had the east Texas/country culture. Both are fantastic!
