Funny, I thought he died a while back. He was married to Marlo Thomas and I saw an interview that she referred to her husband in past tense when talking about I don't remember what, hence I thought he had died. I must have misunderstood what she was talking about.

In those days, talk show hosts were expected to be able to do more than talk. Dick Cavett, Johnny Carson etc all at least read the book or familiarized themselves with what the guest was touting or plugging. But then they COULD read. He was married for 44 years to Marlo Thomas, the daughter of Danny Thomas who founded St Judes. That is quite a legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Judes Research Hospital or the Phil Donahue Notre Dame scholarship fund
