Walnut is high.  I don't think any of the houses on Walnut ever flooded.But it seems to me that the water did get up to Sycamore Lane.  If you live on Sycamore Lane go ask some of the neighbors.No reason to panic.Should you use some common sense and make rational decisions?  Sure.No reason to not go into work.  You may not be able to get down Hamblen Road, but you can go in from Kingwood DR, to Trailwood Village, to Walnut lane.If, and that is a huge IF, if does flood, it will not happen without you getting some warning.  And it for sure isn't going to happen in a few minutesEmoticonJust like with a hurricane coming, get your important papers together, put them in a water proof container.  If it is nothing more than sealing them in a few zip lock bags, that is still a good thing to do. Have a copy of your homeowner insurance, and emergency numbers to call.

@Fallon:

Thank you so much, we are a family of 6 and we've lived in Kingwood for nine years and have never even considered flooding as a possibility

If you are higher than the fire station, you should be fine. The little shopping center flooded, but Forest Cove Drive gets high pretty quick 4951

Sorry that didn't sound right. I meant the street gets higher right past the firehouse, not the water. I agree with Fallon. There would have been a disclosure if your house had flooded in the past. I do a lot of the same things in the summer. One important thing is to keep an eye on the weather. So easy to do now,but when people get busy they forget. I think the river will crest soon unless that line of storms stalls over us again. Hoping they fall apart 4951

Look at the empty lots on Forest Cove Dr. The water was well into those houses. It got at least to Cypress. This flood isn't going near that. 4951

We lived on Cypress in 1994 and had 7.5 feet of water.  The house was 30 years old and had never flooded..  One of those vacant lots used to be our house.  The water came in from the ditch that runs between Cypress and Hickory running towards Hamblen and draining into the river because the river backed up through the ditch.  We learned an important lesson that year.  It is not how far you are from the river but what your elevation is.  There is a dip on Forest Cove Dr. at Cypress and then it rises back up to Hamblen and up to Sycamore the other way. The water did was not close to getting on Sycamore. Look at the Harris County Flood maps for our area.  They were pretty right on.  Almost all of the houses that flooded in 1994 are gone or elevated now.   4951
