Spork : So, when I was in college, if your date Liked you, he brought along a bottle of wine to the frat parties we went to, etc. That actually left More beer for the guys, so there was a method to their madness! ( Think: Cell Lambrusco!). I just never developed a taste for beer. I have tried some of the beers (ale?) my older son has tried, we are out to eat, and he had one that was a 'banana bread' flavor. It was Good! I will drink a margarita, which is mostly the 'frosty' aspect that appeals to me, and fruit garnished Otherwise , I stick to a "Snake Bite", which is tequila, 7 up and twist of lime. I don't drink much any more, but mostly went for 'sweeter' drinks, except for Tequila Shots ( still like), so maybe that was the factor missing, in beer. What factors are your Favorite, re beer? Do you like the traditional beers, or flavored ales, etc?
@LittleTexas :
For beer, I look for flavors like roasted malt, woodiness, hint of chocolate, hint of coffee.
I'll also go for beer when in large groups so I can easily nurse it while socializing - one per hour. I don't want to drink enough too quickly where I start getting too careless in having fun.
For special occasions - it's celebrated with a higher quality bourbon.
As a gateway to beer, consider mead. Mead is the original adult beverage. Recipes date back to 7,000 - 6,000 bc with every generation trying to perfect them. That gives it a very historical appeal when sampling it. I think mead tastes more similar to wine than beer, but the process for brewing seems to be more like beer than wine. Because it's made from fermented honey, they tend to be sweet. So if you like frat house wine, margaritas, and unique banana bread flavors, there may be a mead that fits. I've only sampled a couple of meads from HEB, but I'll eventually pick up something different from Total Wine to find something that's too good to pass up.
