@AceWinsTons :
Aww. They are real comedians! Maybe one will swim to my lake! 🤞. One has been here several times when the water is up from the rain and run off headed to Lake Houston.

I didn't realize we had otters. I figured the gators would have got them.

Hard to really tell from that picture but I believe that is a Nutria. They are highly populated in this area and often mistaken for otters. Although , otters HAVE been spotted in the eastern part of Texas.

@Theoldman : Ok....that just went from "omg...so cute" to "ewww...nasty". But looking at it....I really hope it's an otter!

@Theoldman : Nutria can't stick their heads out of the water like that.

@TexasTideFan:. Sure they can. I’ve seen Nutria climbing out of the water onto the bank many times.

@Theoldman : This was my first thought. It's whiskers do look more like an otter though in the pic.

Funny story...I was at the Houston arboretum and a nutria had crawled out of their pond onto the grass. Dozens of people, many foreign, ooohed and aaahed at it. They gathered round and took pictures.

@RJP59: I don't believe they are protected. But I'd check with TPWD.

@RJP59 : Rodents of Unusual Size is an excellent documentary about this very thing. It's on Tubi for free. Worth watching just for the accents Emoticon
**do not watch if images of dead rodents bothers you**
