Mail cluster box left open in kings river I retrieved my packages but neighbors left exposed. The lock is gone refer to pics I shut the box before pics were taken. Backside completely left open. Talked to neighbor to watch his cameras and get his mail out. I feel confident nothing messed with I had the most crap stuffed into my slought packages etc

@BillandMisty :
Are you sure it was left open and not vandalized? One of ours was vandalized a while back and had to be replaced. A real hassle since mail couldn't be delivered until the new cluster was installed.

All the mail cluster boxes are plastic and age poorly in the sun. I do not like the mail cluster boxes. If you are living in a house - I think all homes should have individual mail boxes.

@Touche :
We have a multiple user (referred to as MU by postal workers) box and would prefer a private mailbox at our house. Not optional. The MUs are faster and more convenient for postal workers.

The multiple user mail receptacles serve two purposes:
1) They are aesthetical for the area.
2) They save the post office time distributing mail.

@BillandMisty : did you report it to the post office, not that they'd do anything but still.....I'd also report it to 311 and the local police department. I agree with whomever said that if you live in a house, you should have your own mailbox, not a community mailbox. IMO Postal folks are too lazy now - remember when they used to walk their routes and take the time to properly distribute the mail to the correct addresses?

@jv339 @BillandMisty :
Goo point - I would defiantly send an email to the mayor. As residents of Houston and Harris county (or any city / county) - we need to communicate with our public officials so they are aware of the issues within their city / county / communities. Public officials have email addresses and phone numbers for that very purpose. The US post office is federal so I do not think there is much local government can do. If you have concerns about your postal box you should probably contact the US postal service.

@Touche : When ours were vandalized beyond repair a few months ago, there was a battle between USPS and our HOA on who was responsible for replacing it. Turned out HOA had to pay for it. Or maybe they did just so as to not have to wait any longer . It still took a few months, and patrons had to go to the PO if they wanted their mail. Packages were delivered to our doors though, just not things that would fit in the mailbox.

@Touche : @jv339 : Not an issue that the Mayor has control over.
@BillandMisty : USPS must be contacted to get the cluster box replaced. Up until about 2017 or so, USPS replaced cluster boxes at its expense. Now, our HOA has to bear the expense of replacing them. I have had to replace more than 20 CBUs in the past 4 years.
Your HOA will need to contact Kingwood USPS Station Manager Kimberly Williams, kimberly.williams2@usps.gov, to start the process which can take several months. I know this from personal experience.
The box you are showing in the picture is a Type III--16 slots--installed for $1,475.
This would be the new box.
