The "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign will soon be lighting up the sky in Humble.

Yes, you heard me correctly…Krispy Kreme has been slowly working its way back into the Houston area and decided to build a brand new location right in our backyard!

The newest Krispy Kreme will be at 8460 FM 1960, right next to the Whataburger near Kenswick Dr.

We've had our eye on the building for quite a while, and we've received lots of inquiries from y'all on what it was going to be. The mysterious storefront definitely resembled the unique look of a Krispy Kreme, but it wasn't being confirmed by the company (KK has always been secretive when it comes to their opening details until right before they are ready to open). However, this morning, we received official confirmation from them that the building is indeed their newest Krispy Kreme location opening in Texas.

The history of Krispy Kreme started over 80 years ago when Vernon Rudolph bought a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a New Orleans French chef, rented a building in what is now historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem (NC) and began selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts to local grocery stores.

In 1989, the first retail Krispy Kreme store opened in Greensboro, N.C.. This laid the path to the first international shop in Canada in 2001; 2011 Krispy Kreme coffee and the Hot Light App; and in 2015 the 1,000th Krispy Kreme store opened.

Quite a history, and some of you may remember back in the late 90's, Krispy Kreme had a few locations in the Houston area. However, by 2006, there was a whole franchise disagreement, and just like that, Krispy Kreme was gone.

I, personally, had never been to a Krispy Kreme before, and neither had my family...So, we took a little trip over to a location in the Cy-Fair area to get a taste of what's to come. The general consensus was that they were really good. Not Shipley's good, but good. Both girls enjoyed the frosted and filled donuts better than the glazed. The iced coffee was a big hit as well.

Krispy Kreme didn't give a specific opening date yet, so make sure to stay tuned for updates...Especially if you'd like FREE donuts for a year. That's how Krispy Kreme celebrates all of their grand openings, and this one will be no different.

@KingwoodDotCom : I love their glazed do nuts when they are just made and hot! They are so good. Never tried any of their other donuts. I am more of a cake donut fan. But their hot glazed donuts are the best! 4951

My family will finally be able to put to rest the debate of Krispy Kreme vs. Shipleys. 4951

Shipley's fan here, but the more the merrier! Interestingly, Krispy Kreme opened a shop in Amarillo Texas years ago and went head to head with the local franchise Donut Stop. The Krispy Kreme location was closed within 6 months. Pretty good example of customer loyalty. 4951

@KingwoodDotCom :

When they KrispyKream opened in Clear Lake when they were first here, we drove down to try these much talked about donuts. We are Shipley's fans and KK did not live up to the hype - they were greasy and had an odd after taste. So, we will forever stick with Shipley's. 4951

None of these delights are healthy, Some of us must sadly stay far away, having had our fill in years gone by. While others will enjoy even abuse the privilege now only to pay the price years later. Such a sweet poison! 4951

Oh god I don't understand the Shipley's obsession. I think it must be a Texas pride thing because they just aren't that appealing to me, they have a pronounced fatty taste and always give me heartburn. Krispy Kreme when the hot light is on is just unbeatable. Dunkin' just tastes mass produced like Kroger donuts. 4951
