@IzzysMommy : 😂😂😂 That’s how it always happens. My parents love to gripe about me “abandoning” my dog Marley when I moved out.

What really happened?

They told me “she’ll miss her yard too much.” Then I bought a house with a yard, and they said, “she’ll miss her cousins too much” (my sister’s dogs that had previously been “abandoned”). Then after both of the cousins went to doggy heaven, “well she’s just been through some changes so she will get too stressed if she moves now.”

Time passes. Now it’s, “well she’s basically been here ever since you abandoned her anyways!! Why take her now?!” 4951

Stealth83 : I’ve thought that ever since we moved here, too. How could our community not have a bad a** dog park?? I’ve never known a community more perfect for a dog park!

@CPAmanda : Because people have yards. Dog parks are for urban areas where there is no space for dogs to run. Pointless in kingwood where everyone has a yard or access to the green belt trails and apartment complexes have dog areas. It’s simply not a good use of tax payer resources. 4951

@IzzysMommy : Absolutely!!! Make sure your dog is Utd on all vaccines. DD says there’s a wicked distemper going around-current vaccines may not cover.

I personally stopped taking my dogs to dog parks. 90% of owners are clueless about dog behavior- they don’t know if their own dogs don’t welcome close up advances ( I have 2 that do mind) nor can they tell the difference between neutral play and the beginnings of dog aggression. Dogs give off a ton of signals before they react or attack. Most people are on their phones paying 0 attention . Not risking my dog’s health for that BS 4951

@allymansfield : Yeah, we have yards... with pools!! My dog wants to run WILD (in a safe, gated area with poop bags), not swim!! 😂

I hadn’t considered the yard thing. I kind of thought Kingwood resisted because we didn’t want “outsiders” invading the bubble. Or the opposite, that Houston resisted because they thought nobody would actually venture into the bubble, and it would go unused. I know so little about how this local/city stuff works so please excuse my ignorance. 4951

@squirtismyboy : Yea and they drive me NUTS on my run. “ oh my dog is friendly” - as he tries to chomp my ankle. Then the owner gets upset as I try to defend myself. Once again total clueless dog owner- NO dog should be off lead in East End..... AND if your dog wants to chase after any moving thing- then it’s probably prey driven . I have 3 Labs -ALL are prey driven 4951

@CPAmanda : My dogs are quite happy running with my on leash. They’re safe from nutty dogs and nutty owners. There is a nice dog park at Duessen- but be aware- again clueless dog owners. A dog fight happens in seconds and it could turn into a free for all if there are a lot of dogs in the park 4951

@CPAmanda : Yea probably one of those stupid flexible- expandable leads. When I see those I shout out a warning and stop running 4951

@CPAmanda : Since the dog park will be at River Grove Park I am betting it will be KW residents since I believe that park is where you need the “K” sticker. Houston had a dog park, it was nice but got flooded. They are rebuilding it.

Makes no difference to me. I do not take my dog to dog parks because of reasons outlined by @jpgurl and others. Just not worth it to me.

The KW Park is being built by the Kingwood Service Association so indirectly itbis tax payer dollars but not tax dollars. Don’t some part of HOA fees go to the KSA? 4951

@CPAmanda : It’s alsi very costly to build and maintain a dog park. It’s essentially wasted space that could otherwise generate income for the city. They simply aren’t worth it in the majority of cases and where they do exist they are a large financial burden. 4951
