Produce today from my own yard: last satsuma, first blood orange, three cherry tomatoes.

There's kale, collards, and parsley as well in my scruffy little garden, but I haven't brought any of those inside today.

What's growing in your fall gardens?

@oggie123 : Well, yes and no. Here near New Orleans that freeze didn't hit us as hard as it hit in Kingwood so our trees here were all right. What hit us hard more recently was Hurricane Ida; be glad you were spared that misery.

However, in our Kingwood yard we lost the satsuma tree and all the azaleas and we continue to be sad about that. Originally dh had bought two satsuma trees at Costco's citrus event -- that was at the Costco on the west side of Houston near where dd#2 lives. He planted the better one in our Kingwood yard and brought the other one home to plant in our St. Charles Parish (county) yard. That little tree struggled but survived. It took five years to begin growing satsumas on its branches, but now it is a sturdy, productive satsuma tree.

Your doing great and I just started to raise plants inside for a while

@Rocklady2020 : Those cherry tomatoes are from last spring's tomato plants that endured our hot and dry summer and fall. They were just leafless sagging brown stems. Several of them stayed like that, just dried out and became brittle. But a couple of those exhausted tomato plants made the effort to survive, grow new vines off the old main vine, and are producing very good cherry tomatoes.

@Rocklady2020 : Plants want to grow. Especially tomato plants. Emoticon

Here's a photo I took today of my little oval garden. We are enjoying kale, collards, and parsley growing around just inside the edging bricks. I hope to harvest leaves from those plants all winter and spring.

I like your little oval garden! It's unusual…

@Jellybeaner : It's about 4 feet wide by 14 feet long, so it can grow a lot of produce. I can't easily reach the center area any more so I just plant in the area near the bricks. I've been building that garden soil's quality for years and years, so that is paying off now.

@HappyHerself : I wanted to keep the herbs going (at the very least) so I put up an Eagle Peak 8' x 6' pop-up, steel frame greenhouse. So far so good.

I added a couple of 4' LED grow light strips, a heat lamp, timer, and a small under the desk heater (for the colder nights). It averages 65 - 85 degrees with 90% humidity.

Tomato (cherry/Roma), several kinds of pepper, onion, chive, basil, rosemary, sage, cilantro, parsley, thyme, and lemon balm/mint arevgoing strong. The strawberry plants are healthy, but not producing.

For winter crops, I planted cauliflower, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, and onions in containers.

Love having fresh tomatoes and herbs every day.

@Quixote : I clicked on "I like this" but that understates how I really feel about what you are doing with your gardening. I love, love, love this! Good for you!
