Humble PD Uses Flock License Plate Readers to Catch Hit and Run Suspect

Loading Image...

On 07/07/2023 a Night Shift B officer was dispatched to Phillips 66 located at the corner of Wilson Rd / Atascocita Rd in reference to an Auto-Pedestrian, hit and run crash.

A pedestrian that was walking in the parking lot was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid.

The pedestrian suffered significant injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The officers conducted an investigation and were able to identify the driver of the suspect vehicle. A felony FSRA (fail to stop and render aid) warrant was then filed in the suspect.

During the investigation, officers utilized Flock license plate readers and found a pattern where the suspect traveled on a regular basis. Officers with Nights - B and Traffic Enforcement Division located the suspect at a construction site and placed him into custody earlier today.

Alot of my neighbors are complaining about invasion of privacy or big brother watching us with these license plate readers. I think they are a good thing, and many more criminals can be caught with them.

Invasion of privacy is a really complicated issue for me.

Nobody wants Big Brother watching everything they do, but sometimes things like surveillance cameras in stores or this kind of license plate reader can really make a difference.

Celebrities complain about their lack of privacy, but their livelihood can depend on their popularity with the masses.

I think we all know what is ridiculously too much, but where is the dividing line between what is necessary and what is invasive? And who gets to make that decision?

@NeverPayRetail : I went to the KSA PIP (Positive Interaction Program) and spoke with the Commander of HPD KW about this. People should not expect any right to privacy when using public roadways.
BTW, there are cameras everywhere you go in public.
Ring is effectively building the largest corporate-owned, civilian-installed surveillance network that the US has ever seen. An estimated 400,000 Ring devices were sold in December 2019 alone, and that was before the across-the-board boom in online retail sales during the pandemic.

My son's friend just hit and killed a 79 year old woman that step out in front of him. At a gas station no less. Going about his family errands as normal, his sister's wedding was that day. He was waiting for the car in front as it pulled away, he moved his jeep up and she stepped off the curb. Camera shows the scene. He's a ******* mess.
My son had called because he didn't make the bachelor party the weekend before. Called to see how things went. No charges, but he was looking for an attorney and a shrink.
Anyone that can just callously run someone, something over and drive away, is not a human anymore. Human comprehend emotions like empathy, compassion, accountability.
I don't think I'd ever drive again. I'd be horrified!

@NeverPayRetail : Until you become the criminal. Tomorrow saying what you did could be deemed a crime. That is the problem

Glad they got him, Just hit someone and leave them, How could they, Just take off and drive away. Don't even care about a person. Needs more then jail,

@Texasdad : I agree. The only reason someone does a hit and run is because they're either drunk or they don't have a license or they don't have insurance or they're wanted.

@NeverPayRetail :

How many have Ring doorbells or cameras attached to their house? The big differance is flock cameras are programed to pick up specific plates.

sweetie : I understand but hitting a person should trump all that, in your mind as a Human being, even if you go to jail. You can't just not care and leave a person that you accidently injured and probably needs medical attention. Top priority then deal with the rest of your actions, whatever that is drunk driving, no insurance/ license or whatever stupid move you did.

@Texasdad : It should but sometimes it doesn't. There's *****s everywhere 😂

@ZMAN : After losing so much weight, and starting to look super fit, you should embrace the new look and been recorded on every camera possible!
