Humble ISD Guest Teachers continue to additional $40 per day through spring semester

Loading Image...

Per Humble ISD, guest teachers will continue to receive $120 or more per day in pay throughout the spring semester. Guest teachers in Humble ISD will continue to receive an extra $40 per day in pay through May 27, 2022, under a temporary pay increase approved by the Board of Trustees.

With the extra $40, guest teachers in Humble ISD will continue to earn $120 per day with 60 or more college hours, $130 per day if degreed, and $140 per day if a Texas certified teacher. For a retired Humble ISD teacher, the rate is $175 per day.

In addition, guest teachers can earn an additional $10 a day in certain special education and bilingual positions and an annual $500 stipend if they work 100 or more days in the school year. Lastly, an additional $10 per day is provided for Monday and Friday assignments.

The Board first approved the temporary pay increase of an extra $40 per day in September 2021 due to challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in the fall semester. The temporary pay was scheduled to end at the conclusion of the fall semester but has now been approved to be extended throughout the 2021-2022 school year.

A guest teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Requirements include 60 or more college hours and a background check. Applications are accepted at:

That's not even close to enough money to deal with kids all day.

@KingwoodDotCom : The sad thing is is I am a full-time employee there and I don't even make that much per day for my daily rate. I really wish they would take care of their employees first before paying the subs more than they pay their full-time employees.

Are guest teachers a fancy name for a substitute teacher?

@KingwoodDotCom : Thank you for sharing, I know a United Airlines employee that took the religious exemption and they made her inactive with no pay or benefits. Basically terminated employee, but just sitting inactive their system. State told United that they had to pay her and other employees that filed religious exemption unemployment wages. They said no they are inactive in their system. They lost and are paying the basic weekly benefit through the state now still no benefits. She was thinking she might enjoy teaching children. She is really really a kind and incredibly smart person. I will pass this along to her, it really is a good well organized school district. These wages seem very fair in such a hard to find quality help time period

That is truly a job most people don't want, so I understand their need to try to lure people in. But it's sad to see the comments from full-time employees about making less than that.

@Weathergirl5 : 100% agree.....I never understood why teachers don't make a great living. I much rather have taxes go to decent salaries instead of bloated administrative costs.

@ZMAN : I can't even afford benefits w my pay. I would be owing then money & I'm a full time employee. Plus subs don't get paid on days they don't work. So they would have to work everyday to make decent money. I get paid about $13. So people flipping burgers get paid more then me. But I do get holidays & summers off w pay. My pay is split up thru out year. Also I do not have all the paperwork & grading that teachers do so my pay offsets many things. I get it but I am literally a teacher. I run my own classes I do duties. I sub in classes when they need me. I do everything a librarian does except I'm A para w para pay.

@ZMAN : Trust me, the benefits are not that great that's assuming you can even afford them. If I got the non High deductible health plan just for me it would take more than half of my paycheck each pay period.

@NOLA : I'm not talking about teachers I'm talking about para educators. They are paid around 11 or $12 an hour with a college degree. Their daily rate is about $110 a day. Much lower daily rate and they are paying the subs who are not even employees. I'm just saying I think they should take care of their employees first before offering more money for substitutes.
