Maver1ck : I think you have to be careful with high heats with olive oils. Not sure if true but I read that somewhere.

@mutton : ok. I might try it this week on some wings. Listen for sirens and look for smoke coming from my neighborhood.

@Maver1ck :
Yep. But it's more nutritional if you don't cook it and not at high temps. I eat it by making my own salad dressing so it's raw and it's delicious on salads.

@MissAmericanPie : Ok. I like the bread dipping mixture and on a salad with vinegar too would be great.

@Maver1ck :
I use half a teaspoon, and half a teaspoon of lemon juice ( real or from the bottle), to keep kidney stones away. I read this online, the 2nd time I had them. If you out both halves on one tablespoon, and drink it at once, it doesn't taste as greasy; the lemon juice helps that.

That's nothing new. Neither is the idea that a Mediterranean diet is better for you. It's all fresh food, not the highly processed foods like in America. I can honestly say that I've never been a fan of all the garbage they push. I'm a lady that things fresh fruits and veggies with some cheese and bread or crackers are a meal.
Even their sauces etc are made with fresh herbs, oils and other ingredients, not out of a powdered packet.
I know many people that take a shot of evoe and even a shot of apple cider vinegar. Pickle juice is another good one. Never throw the juice out, chop up some veggies and let them marinate.

@LittleTexas :
Put the olive oil, lemon juice and a dash of vinegar on a salad, or some veggies. You're basically drinking salad dressing lol.

I've incorporated saurkraut into my daily diet. I take a couple of forks full, or on the side of dinner. It's great gut health food.

Me too, preferably without the dog. But the only way to eat a dog. That is unless it's a coney island dog.

What's the difference between the cheaper olive oil and extra virgin olive oil?

@Maver1ck : Beware. "Extra virgin" is not a protected label in the US like it is elsewhere, so they can legally call anything extra virgin. (The official designations in the US ate something weird like "fancy olive oil" and date from like the 1910s when I guess that sounded less laughable.).

I wouldn't fry chicken with it. Extra virgin olive oil has a very low smoke point and you'll end up setting off your smoke detector and opening the windows and cursing your burned, blackened chicken. Some refined olive oils are supposed to have a higher smoke point but I still wouldn't try it. You can sauté with it though.

IMO olive oil is better cold anyway. On a salad or drizzled over veggies or on toast. It's got a strong flavor so don't cook or bake with it unless you want olive oil flavor.

FYI the Central Market olive oil from Spain that they sell in metal jugs at HEB is good and not exorbitantly priced.
