Good news! Spoonful of Olive Oil could do this

Here's some positive news: "Mounting evidence suggests adding just a spoonful of olive oil to your diet each day can have powerful health benefits. A new study from the US suggests this includes protection against dementia.

"While healthy 'Mediterranean' diets in general tend to include a dash of olive oil, the researchers claim the ingredient itself stands out for its beneficial qualities."

"Researchers found adults who regularly consumed more than 7 grams of olive oil a day (about half a tablespoon) were 28 percent less likely to die of dementia-related diseases compared to those who never or rarely consumed olive oil."

If I'm gonna die anyway, I don't particularly want to be there when it happens. Just a thought…

@Quixote : Hahah good point! Perhaps we should double down on breakfast and have a double portion of thick, sliced Texas bacon

@Maver1ck : A few years back when I had blood work done, my cholesterol level was slightly high. I started making my own spreadable butter with olive oil and cooking with olive oil instead of other fats. The next time I had bloodwork done, my cholesterol levels were in the normal range. I'm glad I made the change and I do not miss other fats. It giving me protection against dementia is just another added benefit. Thanks for the info!

@TEXASGIRLMAMMA : The information that you provided is fascinating as well. I believe that you are spot on with a conclusion that olive oil can possibly lower cholesterol levels. I believe we are going to start eating less butter and more olive oil starting today. Thank you too for the kind of boost!!!

Oohhh there is a booth at Painted Tree that has some amazing olive oils. I personally live the garlic and the blood orange.

@Maver1ck :
I only use extra virgin olive oil and butter occasionally. I don't trust any of the other oils.

@Jonn : What's the difference between the cheaper olive oil and extra virgin olive oil? Is it purity or has something been removed from one or the other? I apologize for being dumb on this I honestly don't know I've seen both of them though on the shelves of the grocery store.

Thank you too for the kind boost!

I still use butter for some things too, but not as much vegetable oil.

@Maver1ck : Not sure but it's lighter and supposedly healthier.
