@ZMAN : So is the golf course currently in use? If this is R. Holley, he has started a number of successful developments (as I understand he starts them, gets funding & then sells his interest). If I remember correctly, he developed or helped in the development of Kings Lake Estates & Deer Ridge Estates. We had a mutual friend years ago & I recall him being interested in the undeveloped property (prior to all the new neighborhoods & retail) south of 1960, east of Lake Houston Pkwy & south of Walden. And....we all know, that area has had MAJOR development over the last few years (of course, I have no clue if he was involved).

asasolid2r : If that money loosing golf course would save homes from flooding it would not be a total loss. At least the city could make some money off it.

@TEXASGIRLMAMMA : Other than a few houses towards the east end of St Andrews, I'm pretty sure most of the Harvey flooding in FC was related to the yahoos running that dam 35 miles upstream. An additional 128 homes spread out over 35 to 45 acres is not gonna create a flood stream in the river bottom.

Well, I just called Dave Martins office to see if he would be attending the Meeting on Thursday and to see where he stands on the matter. I talked to an assistant named Dustin in his office and was told that the hearing this Thursday is likely to be deferred because of insufficient information by the applicant. He also told me that Dave Martin supports the residents of Forest Cove and is against the development (I'll believe that when I hear it right from Dave's mouth though).

@asasolid2r : Would you bet your house on that?

The property owners of this area never got together to try to buy this property?

@ZMAN : probably not but then again I wouldn't buy a house in the river bottom dam or no dam. I woulld still buy flood insurance at the top of the ridge
It's still Gulf Coast Prairie with gumbo soil up there

@1836 : I went to a few of the Forest Cove HOA meeting early on and it was talked about, but we were basically told that a Forest Cove HOA purchase was not going to be possible.
Then there was a collection set up to pay a lawyer to protect the interests of the neighborhood, but I don't really know what the results of that were.

@ZMAN : Aren't there a couple houses across the street from you that have gotten some water? Probably because they sit lower than the front ditch. I'm thinking a gray 2 story maybe.

@kingwooddiscgolf : They came very close (up to the door) and one was in the garage a little but I dont think the water actually went inside. And then there are 2 directly across the course from me on St Andrews that did take a couple inches of water.

@ZMAN : Those houses sit lower than the road as well. Drives slope down to the house.

@kingwooddiscgolf : And I doubt having a street and houses built right above it is gonna help things.

@ZMAN : I assume the course actually crowns down the cart path behind you. Slopes towards the houses either side. I am also thinking that is exactly where one of the streets will run if developed.

@kingwooddiscgolf : Yep, exactly, Id guess that the center is a good 2-3 feet higher than my house.

asasolid2r : I would argue though that the course was in pretty bad disrepair for at least 5 years leading up to its closure. Before the owner ran it into the ground because of a lack of upkeep it was a very nice busy course.

@ZMAN : The grass on that course was **** last time I went out there. I also lost my sandal in the pond. This was after the sole of my golf shoe tore apart. So, **** that course.

If COH is doing the their jobs the new streets will be curbed and guttered with the drainage flowing southbound towards the river and independent of the current FC drainage system. also all the lots should have higher elevation in the back so all the drainage goes into the new streets. The reason for the Elm Grove fiasco was more a MoCo county govt being in the pocket of Perry, COH was mostly blameless for once.
