Absolutely seen them. Every office building, bank etc had them. High rise apartments too.
Do you remember garbage shoots on every floor? 4951

The only chute I saw was the laundry chute in our house! It would sometimes get clogged between floors and you would have to keep pushing in and out on the wall of it to get the clothes moving!
They don't put those in houses anymore because they are fire hazards. 4951

Yes. Hotels and office buildings. The mail room was always in the basement. 4951

Redmulch : I remember seeing these all the time in bank lobbys and other office buildings growing up. My mom probably saw them as a godsend since I'd stand there watching the mail come down the chute and into the box (the chute had glass on the front). She could conduct her business in the bank without worrying that I was going to wander off. This was in the Metro Pittsburgh PA area.

My guess was Pittsburgh or NYC. The old bank buildings have gorgeous lobbies! 4951
