Went with Destroy to lunch yesterday in The Heights, and we decided to stop by El Bolillo on Airline (2517 Airline Drive). I lived in Central America for 5 years, have been a "panito" (small bread) fan for Decades, and this place is Hands Down, the Best. Worth the short drive. We Filled a tray (see photos; she was too quick in bagging, and you see only Half of what we got, on the tray) Cost: $6.50. No Way..and quality is amazing! If you have little ones, they have some cute Halloween themed orange colored breads, cookies and more. I did not get a tres leches, because I did not have a way to keep it chilled for the rest of our day out, but it is Delicious, too.(there is a cold case at the end of the checkout, so don't miss shopping there..flan and more)
We got: apple empanadas, croissants that are lightly sugared all over, pig cookie, which is gingerbread, Pan Columbiano, and conchas (come in 3 colors, I like the white topped one). They are also constantly making fresh tortillas.
Go..Andele..you'll love it! 4951

@LittleTexas : I drove past there yesterday and the line was down the sidewalk to get in. I figured it must be something pretty special for people to wait in a line like that. I've heard their Tres Leches is the best but I've never tried it. 4951

@gabbygirl : the line moved quickly! you do have to wear a mask when inside. we were there at about 2pm, and there was no need to worry about their baked goods being fresh, as they were constantly restocking the shelves,, from the large racks straight from the ovens. With so many customers, they bake a good part of the day, and well know when their customers will have bought for the day. I would go before noon on a weekday, maybe be there within 2 hours of opening, as I am not sure of their flow and numbers, those days. Sundays are good days, as they have steady clientele through the early afternoon. 4951

@carol888 : they do have some chocolate things, but panitos are generally bread and treats Without chocolate. You can always Dip them in hot fudge, but they arent boring at all. If that works for you...go for it! 4951
