DIY Tear Drop Campers
Ive recently gone down a youtube rabbit hole of custom built DIY teardrop campers. For those that dont know these are small homemade campers purpose built to be light weight and comfortable for sleeping and cooking in the outdoors. Im really considering building one. Ive seen some builds that were done using Harbor freight screw together trailers and were completed for less that 2k.
Does anyone have one of these?
It looks like such a fun project and cool thing to have.

I have been looking for a small camper trailer like this. Simple and functional and can be towed by small suv.

@billcherie2 : Check out youtube, lots of people building their own. If your handy it can cost you less than half of what you might expect to pay for an already made one. Plus you can customize it to what is most important to you.

@ZMAN : I've looked at them and like the concept, but part of my family is a bit too high maintenance for a camper, probably any camper….

I made my own when kids were small. Served it's purpose well.

@elguapo : Did you do a welded steel frame or a wooden frame for the camper structure?

Pretty cool project. I've mentioned to my dh about building out a nice size trailer for the same purposes. I don't need all the fluff of a camper to camp. I need shelter and cooking. I also talked about building out a box truck for a mobile office. Let me know how it goes. I've taken myself down those camper vs rv rabbit holes quite a bit. Almost was talked into a $300,000 tour bus class A, or the 5th wheel with the back and side porches. Lol I'd need a $100,000 truck to pull that with. Then the hole maintenance thing of an rv and the like, the replacement part costs, the emergency fund needed for hotels etc in case of break down. Many many rabbit holes in 3 years of reach, videos, salesman. I like your project idea. Simple comfort and the ability to eat. Nothing more needed and very low maintenance.
