Take a few days for the poison to be fatal to the liver. In the meantime they wander around. My old dog TJ tried to catch a poisoned rat- thankfully we were right there before he sank his teeth into the rat. We don't use poison but my neighbor used to talk about putting poison out.
@Labslady : Snap traps can only catch so many, and using cats or snakes is probably not much more comfortable for the rats, I would guess. They do so much damage that I just don't really feel sorry for them. If they didn't love tractor wiring so much, I might have more pity on them, but I don't. 4951
