>> Ruger5 : Years ago I drove with a friend to take her nephew back to KY after a visit. After getting off mind you so it was late. I honestly did not think we would make it back out the the holler where her family lived. We were driving from Columbus, OH so it was several hours to and back. Just about an all night trip. Scared to death is an understatement. Narrow roads pitch black not able to see anything off sides could only see the road in the headlights. If I had to live in a place like that I would never go out at night.

@Nusiance : I was scared to death but because I felt like we were living a scene from deliverance.

@Jellybeaner : I understand poverty but only through a child's eyes. I can not wrap my brain around this kind of filth. Imagine what the inside of those dwellings must look like. Does lack of education play a part in choosing to live in such conditions? Despair? Poverty? Mental illness? SMH

@Ruger5:Maybe all the above! Good Lord, my mother was almost obsessive about cleanliness and neatness! She would just turn her head if she ever saw anything remotely like that!

@Ruger5 : You really don't have to go that far to see people living like that. I could take you a couple hundred miles north of here and show you country estates like that.

It it wasn't home unless you saw washer and dryer on the front porch and a bazillion broken down cars in the yard.
