So I saw this and I'm wondering how long it will take to get these funds. The request was passed/approved. But it would take much more $$ to even make a dent in what Kingwood is facing regarding flooding. Is the bottom line the sand mining businesses? And can that legally be shut down?
Request by the Flood Control District for approval to submit an application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for grant funds in the amount of $1,600,000, with a required cash match of $400,000, for the Kingwood Diversion Ditch Program (San Jacinto Watershed, Bond ID F-14, Project ID G103-38-00-E001, Precinct 3

@eighteen :
I would presume all the silt and sand is disturbed by the mining activities upstream ?

@StormChaser :
Poor tow truck companies……… who are they going to tow now😶 -
……let's not forget the folks who will ultimately be unemployed at the factory that manufactures K stickers😳 -

I'm obviously being facetious here as this is an extremely serious problem.

A few rednecks with heavy equipment could fix river grove sand bar once a year for a K sticker lol

Couldn't a bulkhead or cascading concrete wall help prevent?

Are there not laws that state individuals or a company cannot divert or alter the path of a natural body of water? If the upstream mining company is allegedly allowing sand to escape their production, then why is this being ignored? Or is it something that cannot be proven? Or is it ok? We all need to contact our elected officials. It will take a lot of money and effort to make a small difference. But that difference can mean a lot if your home is flooding. Our home values will plummet if Kingwood has continued flooding. I am very concerned.

Wow, All that sand and eventually that side of Kingwood turns into Flood houses. Already The boat docks are ruined unless someone does something like pay 800k and more sand is coming. We probably screwed, and will not have it anymore and it turns into sand piles.

@Texasdad : We can build big ovens and melt the sand into glass houses to put on top of the mountain of sand where old kingwood once stood.

A Kingwood home owner was just interviewed on Channel 11 news regarding how difficult it is to renew his current homeowners insurance. Many of us are learning we can't renew or the rates have skyrocketed. The realities of the flooding threats are not being ignored by the ins. industry. Even if you never flooded, they deny or raise your rates.
