@TexasTideFan : If you have ever driven a boat or at the front when you are approaching a dock, etc, boats dont stop on a dime because of forward momentum. I havr driven a 20 ft boat, outboard and had to reverse thrust when approaching a dock.

Chiza : As I understand it, or even after I have driven a smaller 20 ft boat, it keeps going long after power was chopped. When I wanted to come to the dock, I would reverse the propeller. You cant do that if theres no power.

Facts @PeterBee, and with these massive vessels....you can't just switch gears....it's a whole process. Especially with the older vessels.

@billcherie2 ....ask questions. I'm happy to answer to what I know...

As far as tug escorts go...they will likely be mandated in the area....although, NTSB investigation information pending and necessary. I don't know if tugs would have actually changed the outcome...but for me to explain why not would ask for people to listen to the reasoning....and that doesn't seem to be the desire of many. So I will not speculate and I will wait for facts.

I appreciate you @billcherie2....I want to say they could have made a difference....but at the speeds and from what I observed they attempted to do....tugs would have slightly slowed the impact....but that's merely from my observation over videos and not knowing prevailing conditions nor special circumstances...

This is devastating...Prayers for all.

This incident represents the most severe US bridge collision since the Tampa Skyway Bridge disaster in 1980. (I used to live right by the Skyway Bridge)

I'm not going to speculate, but what I do know....is the ship lost power multiple times. There were likely "Pilots" onboard....but without power, maneuverability is extremely limited, if there at all.

Here is the article...
