@Txbutterfly :
My mother could grow anything and had beautiful hydrangeas. I am very good at killing them. I did not buy one. Another shopper was excited saying they at $50 at HEB. I don't know if that is true.

@jv339 : Mine do well and bloom most all of the summer and survive freezing temps. I have 4 bushes. They like morning filtered sun and afternoon shade and need to be watered in the hot summer.

@Kittle :
The WalMart in New Caney had some beautiful, blooming, small hibiscus. They were about $6. Seemed like a good price!

@Txbutterfly :
me neither; I just think our heat is too much for them, even if they claim to be 'acclimated' ones. I had huge, gorgeous bushes on either side of our porch, at our house in PA. Pink, blue, white; a gorgeous mix. The bushes were about 50 years old, and there were many, up and down that block. So pretty. My neighbor told me to pour pickle juice at the base of the bushes, as it helped them create more vivid colors,and it worked!

@muffy :
Yes, I agree. Mine are along my backyard fence surrounded by hostas, ferns and caladiums and moss rock.
I go to new England frequently where hydrangeas thrive and I love them so much. I wasn't sure that I would be successful growing them but I have seen several in my neighborhood so I gave it a try.
I have had them around 4 years now and they die back and return every spring.

@Txbutterfly : I can't either. And I love them. And when you drive on a road trip, sometimes in the country, you see them 3 feet tall or 5 feet tall that you know been growing for years yet I can't get 1 to live for a couple of months.
