So, you have anything this odd in your attic?

A 285-year-old lemon was discovered in the back of an old cabinet drawer.
While taking pictures of the cabinet (to sell it), the lemon was discovered.
The fruit was inscribed: "Given By Mr P Lu Franchini Nov 4 1739 to Miss E Baxter."
The lemon sold at auction for $1,780! The cabinet sold for $40!

"The oldest lemon found in Rome dates to sometime between the late first century B.C. and the early first century A.D."

@Maver1ck :
Well that is interesting. I am not sure I would have thought to sell the lemon.

@Donnawisdom : I'm with you. But perhaps a scientist or pharma group bought it to study. Interesting especially given the exact date on it...gives an example/correlation to dating such things by comparison/example.

In my Grandfather's desk (circa 1920) that I've had for some decades and moved from house to house over the years, I recently (accidently) discovered a very fancy and ornate brass letter opened wedged in the back of the pull down table in it. Had a lawyer's advertisement on it from around 1920...I gifted it to a lady family member who is a lawyer...she really loved it...especially knowing it came from her Great Great Grandfather's desk. I don't know how I missed seeing the opener all these years but one day, aha!!! there it was!

@Maver1ck: I wouldn't call a lemon a romantic 🥰 gift,,,but I guess back then it would've been considered exotic?

Maver1ck : That's crazy

@Rocklady2020 : Yeah, never know what treasures are hidden out there. I read some years ago where a couple bought this old couch from a thrift store, and decided to recover the fabric....inside the old fabric and cushions they found bales of loose cash....thousands of dollars.

I would imagine the seeds could be useful to those who grow lemons.
