It is very important to check for mold after an extended power outage.  Here is a helpful checklist to guide you through the steps to make sure your house and family are safe!

•Check for Visible Mold: Look for visible mold growth on walls, ceilings, and other surfaces, especially in damp areas.
•Smell for Musty Odors: A persistent musty or earthy smell can be a strong indicator of mold presence.
•Inspect for Water Damage: Examine areas that might have water damage, such as around windows, roofs, and plumbing fixtures.
•Feel for Moisture: Touch walls and surfaces to check for dampness or water accumulation.
•Look Behind Furniture: Move furniture and check behind it, as mold often grows in hidden spots.
•Examine HVAC Systems: If safe, check your HVAC systems for any signs of mold growth or unusual odors.
•Check Windows and Doors: Inspect the seals around windows and doors for moisture or mold growth.
•Use a Flashlight: Use a battery-powered flashlight to thoroughly inspect darker areas like basements and attics.
•Monitor Health Symptoms: Pay attention to any allergy-like symptoms or respiratory issues in household members.
•Listen for Drips: Listen for the sound of dripping water, which could indicate leaks contributing to mold growth.
•Check Under Carpets: If possible, lift carpets or rugs to look for signs of mold underneath.
•Document Findings: Take notes and pictures of any potential mold issues for future reference and remediation planning.
