Interview with Melissa Blocker of MAB Esthetics!
As part of our ongoing Getting to Know Your Local Businesses series, this week we sat down with Melissa Blocker, owner of MAB Esthetics.
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer and how long have you been around?
Skincare is my passion! I offer a variety of specialty, anti-aging skin care services. Customized treatments provide 
skin tightening, minimize fine lines, address hyperpigmentation or melasma, dehydration/dryness, acne, dark circles under the eyes and other aging and hormonal facial skin issues.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I had a facial in college and that's when I knew I wanted to help people with their skincare concerns. My skin was a mess and the results I got from that experience from that one hour of exfoliation, extractions and education were life changing. So much so that after college I pursued a Para-Medical Esthetician medical certification. When Continental Airlines hired me in their Grooming Department, I was a skincare (flight creates many skincare issues due to low humidity, air quality and job demand) and makeup instructor to flight attendants in training. After transitioning into being a flight attendant, I settled in the Kingwood community and opened Essential Skin Care.
Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
My new business location, nestled among trees, is a veritable escape. It creates a more intimate setting and allows my clients to receive very personalized pampering and targeted results. I really love that after 38 years 
helping men and women with their skincare needs that I still receive referrals and made so many lasting friendships.
What is your favorite part of running this business?
I love seeing my clients skin improve. Having my own salon gives me the ability to create a welcoming environment to interface with clients and help do what's best for them.
Who is your target market or ideal customer/client?
Are you happy with the way you're aging? We offer customized treatments that can address signs of aging on your face and help you age more gracefully while looking your best.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Good skin care is a journey. Diet, exercise, sunscreen and a good at-home skincare routine at home is critical. I love skincare. It's my passion.
How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
I carry two medical-grade skincare lines that I use in clinic and encourage people to use at home for optimal results. As a certified professional esthetician, I have carried the PCA line for 30 years. While researching a clean, holistic, luxury line, I introduced QUL brand to my clients and am the only retailer in the greater Houston area.
