Meet master coffee roaster, Steve Chriswell, who is the expert in all things coffee and owner of Vertere Coffee Roasters in Kingwood, Texas.
Vertere Coffee Roasters sprung from idea to reality in December 2013. The name Vertere is Latin meaning "to turn
the page," as coffee was a new career path for Steve and his wife, Julie. Additionally, Vertere helps customers turn the page on their own coffee experience. Since opening eight years ago, Vertere has grown to offer freshly roasted specialty coffee, specialty loose teas, personal/commercial brewing equipment and supplies, and coffee training. One can find a wide variety of Vertere coffees served and sold at local area coffee shops, restaurants, and churches in the Kingwood/Porter/New Caney areas, even extending into Houston, Galveston, and Canyon Lake regions. Vertere coffee is also available in whole bean, ground, or K-Cup formats directly at the roastery and online at
www.VertereCoffee.com shipping across the continental U.S.
Steve runs the day-to-day operations, while Julie works in the Humble School District's Special Education Department. During a break in his employment, Steve found the vision and motivation to begin the only commercial coffee roasting company in the Kingwood area. Still today, Vertere is the only commercial coffee roaster in this growing area and is open to the public from 10am-6pm, Monday thru Friday, with limited hours on Saturdays. What began as a small dream in Steve's home, within 6 months transitioned into a fully commercial space on Ford Road across from Porter Elementary School. Now, Vertere has doubled its space and supports a team of two part-time team members who love serving customers through great coffee.
Vertere Coffee Roasters is rooted in service, flexibility, and dedication to roasting coffee in a way that develops the best flavor profile a coffee has to offer. Vertere offers a wide selection of coffees from around the global coffee growing belt and they have developed special friendships at the farm level. Vertere also offers a variety of high-quality loose teas from which to choose.
"Vertere Coffee Roasters is The.Fresh.Difference., and that saying is more than just something we say. What sets
Vertere apart from grocery store coffee is that we offer our coffee friends the freshest coffee possible. One can buy coffee from us the day of roasting, and we typically roast up to three times per week, meaning that most coffees are roasted every week. Vertere also makes personal deliveries to the Kingwood/Porter area for coffee ordered online. We are your local coffee guys," said Steve.
One of Steve's favorite parts of running Vertere is watching people smile after they drink his coffee. He went on to say, "A smile goes a long way, from us and from our customers. We like to say around Vertere that we give away happiness when we sell coffee. Customers comment that Vertere coffee reminds them of pleasant past coffee experiences in their lives. Vertere helps customers find the coffee they want from its wide selection and through friendly recommendations. Other favorites are serving customers and meeting people who grow coffee at origin when possible. People in the coffee growing community that Vertere has visited are truly industrious workers, and Vertere looks for ways to buy direct from these coffee families whenever possible. Vertere currently purchases a coffee direct from El Salvador that provides direct benefits at the grower level. We look forward to meeting you, serving you, and seeing your smile."
Vertere's Target market is people ... people who like great coffee ... people on a personal coffee journey ... people who like fresh coffee that is a step above what is available in most grocery stores. Vertere recognizes that people
know and focus on what they like. There is a wide demographic for people who like great food, wine, and, fresh-roasted, craft coffee. All ages and economic levels are at play, and great coffee is for everyone who loves coffee. Vertere searches long and hard to find and roast the best coffees from all major growing regions and makes them available to those in search of great coffee. Vertere is here and ready to help personal coffee drinkers and is prepared to supply larger volume commercial users with commercial quantities.
Steve's background includes time in fields of chemical engineering, sales, and marketing. Study of Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas led to a 25-year career in plastic packaging manufacturing, sales, and marketing. In his career, Steve has the drive to help customers by ensuring product quality and to support customers' needs at their own manufacturing sites. Away from work, Steve has participated in serving high school students in his local church since 1998. This combination of experience, personal drive, and faith enabled Steve to assemble the business that is Vertere and to keep his focus on producing products in a way that best serves others. Come up on a Saturday morning, and you might even find Steve playing the blues on his newly found hobby of electric guitar.
Vertere recently announced its 2021 holiday coffees: Holiday Blend and Peppermint Mocha. Each of these coffees are available in whole bean, ground, and new this year in K-Cups for those using single-serve machines. Vertere routinely ships orders and offers two shipping discounts. The second discount, available for customers outside of Kingwood, is a reduced shipping discount for qualifying orders of 3lbs or more, as Vertere desires to minimize shipping costs whenever possible.
Steve went on to say, "Vertere prefers its customers to enjoy great coffee. One of our mottos is "if we're going to drink coffee, it might as will be great." That motto is true and is one we try to live out daily. Vertere is also the most flexible coffee roaster you are likely to meet. If you have a coffee need, whether for personal or commercial use, Vertere will do its best to meet it. We also offer barista and other periodic community coffee training classes. Vertere wants to help educate people in the world of coffee as the coffee culture continues to grow in the Kingwood area. We can even arrange tours of our roastery for groups that are interested."
There have been many improvements to Vertere's operations over the past year or so including adding warehouse space, bagging equipment, K-Cup filling equipment, and material transfer equipment, all with the goal of increasing production efficiency and flexibility to better serve our customers. Vertere continues to keep an eye on coffee trends and is working to develop a line of bottled cold brew concentrate products for potential Spring 2022 release. Stay tuned at
www.VertereCoffee.com for developments and updates.
Vertere desires to grow by serving and satisfying customers with great coffee. "While we cannot predict the future, we can concentrate on serving our customers the best and trust that people will enjoy and tell their friends. We hope to meet and get you know you on your coffee journey."
