Sculpture by Andrea Wilkinson

June exhibit features work of sculptor Andrea Wilkinson & painter Christie Coker

Sculptor Andrea Wilkinson and painter Christie Coker showcase their artistic passion for animals and landscapes in Fur, Feather, & Field on exhibit at Archway Gallery, June 5 – July 1, 2010.

The artists, who found inspiration for their art works from the animals and landscapes that define the quiet beauty found along country roads, will be on hand to visit with guests firsthand during the exhibition opening reception, set for June 5 from 5 – 8 pm at the gallery, located at 2305 Dunlavy, Houston, TX.

Andrea Wilkinson has a life-long love of animals. She received her Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Oklahoma State University and served as a docent at the Houston Zoo for four years. She studied sculpture at The Glassell School of Art, Houston, the

Fechin Institute and Scottsdale Artists’ School and naturally found that her love of sculpting combined with her love of animals became the focus of her work. Wilkinson has received numerous commissions to create likenesses of beloved animals and her work is widely collected by animal lovers across the country.

Christie Coker studied art at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and after graduation taught art for more than 17 years, first in the Golden Triangle area and then in the Cy-Fair ISD upon moving to Houston in 1995. Christie was awarded with the district honor of being named Spotlight Teacher of the Year in 2001 before transitioning from a full-time teaching career to pursue life as a working artist. She is a member of the Visual Arts Alliance (VAA); the Watercolor Art Society of Houston (WAS-H); and Women in the Visual and Literary Arts (WIVLA). Currently she serves as Curriculum Director for City Artworks, a non-profit organization that brings artistic enrichment to elementary and middle school students in the greater Houston area.
