I was watching a movie last night and found myself wondering if the military services suggest soldiers/sailors write a will before being deployed into a dangerous area. Does anyone know?

My late father did and it was notarized by an office with the U.S. military. It was just before he left for Vietnam and I was not even born yet. I found it about 4 years after he passed away.
When my nephew joined the Marines, he did not do a will ; it is not required, when they are deployed, either. They do, however, have them fill out a SGLI ( service members group life) Form, to name their beneficiaries. Since he was in the Marines for 8 years, he eventually Did fill out a will, when he was counseled to, after he married, and they had their first child, while he was in service. So , they do not Have to , but they are Advised to.
My son was a marine for 10 years. I doubt he had much wealth and that was the last thing I thought about when he was gone. I think he did fill out that form…He wasn't married at the time. I just thank God he came home. Actually, he is not in Texas, but in the good ole USA! 🇺🇸 That is good enough for me!
LittleTexas reacted Give him a hug and a big thank you for his service, please! My nephew was in for 8 years, and since getting out, has gotten his Masters from A&M, and has raised to 2 great kids, with his wife. The Marines Truly set him on the right path, and he followed it, with honor, from step one. Semper Fi!
