We just got a $500 water bill from COH. Anyone else?

You either have a leak or you have been watering a lot when we had no rain for a couple months. That is an average bill for anyone who uses their sprinklers a lot. Family of 6 here and our water bill is $100 a month with no watering the lawn.

My family wpuld be washing clothes at the river if my bill was 500!! Im upset it went above 60

We watered more than usual in August and September. Our bill was $214. 😢

I just received a $1600 bill. Called, followed their instructions. No leak, actual meter reading is 40 (thousand?) gallons less than what COH has on the bill. Called them back, and am in absolute COH hell trying to get them to simply come back and re-read the meter.
(Normal bill this time of year for us is $250 or so. No pool, never had a bill over $300.)

That does seem really high, unless you have a leak, been using the sprinklers a lot, or adding water to a pool. Ours was in the $300 dollar range, which is still high, but expected for our household.

123abc : Do you know how to read your own meter? It is pretty easy. If they come out to read it, they will charge you.

If y'all have a sprinkler system, you may have a leak. I did. I had it repaired, submitted the bill and in 3 short months ( insert sarcasm!) they refunded me. Good luck.

I have had an on going sprinkler leak that I didn't know about til I changed sprinkler companies. My bill went from always being around $279.00 to less than 100.00! Check for leaks!!!

I read it - that's how I know the actual reading is less now a week after they mis-read it.
Hopefully their charge to come read it will be less than the $1300 or so they are trying to overcharge.

yes, but I've been watering almost everyday due to the drought.

Ours are always high and even had $900 bills 2 months in a row. We just became empty nesters so I am looking forward to the next couple of bills to see the difference. Washing machine, showers and dishwasher was always going.

I thought they only charge you to read your meter if they determine it is your problem.

Not sure how anyone can keep getting high water bills. Does everyone have leaks or just keeps the water/toilet running 24 hrs a day. My highest this summer was $53.94 in August due to watering the garden and grass. Seems something is wrong somewhere.

mrscook429 : I don't even want to talk about COH water bill. Ours was $1332.49, or 38,000 gallons! I almost had a heart attack. I had a plumber come out and check for leaks in the house at the meter- nothing. So COH is sending a tech to check the meter. It has to be a faulty meter. There is no way that my DW and I used 38,000 gallons of water in the house. Our irrigation meter reading of 9,000 gallons used was in line with the previous month.

Seems most water bills are now 100s of dollars a month in the COH. Water rates have increased and will continue to increase. Houston water system needs major repairs. Watering grass and landscaping will cost you hundreds.
