cador : How is your Mom doing???

@hutch5510 : @fallon :
She's making it, just left there from getting her from the hospital. Her neighbor originally called me Thurs cause mom was walking around her apt complex complaining she can't get a hold of me, shaking, and very confused. I came and called 911 and they took her, it's the same scenario, and same reason she's went in the last 3/4 times, a UTI that is so bad it makes her confused and weak.
She still is very confused, riding home through the Oaks she started getting on to me for "jotting her around Spring Branch and taking her to Kirbywoods" (no idea where she got that-it's a neighborhood/appts in Cleveland) she comes up with some stuff I have no idea where she gets, "going to meetings for Jewish law at the JfK Center in the morning", all kinda of stuff, funny but weird. I'm giving her a hard time (I know, bad son) for some of it as I'm giggling but it's got me a tad worried.
We'll see as she take more of her UTI meds this weekend. 4951

@sweetie :
See above, all her PW seems to be OK, thx for asking. She had us laughing (I know it's not supposed to be funny, we're a sarcastic fam) as my niece came over as well earlier. But if she doesn't get any better we're going to need to do something about it. 4951

@cador : Keep a close eye on her! UTIs are serious stuff eapecially in the elderly. People go septic very easily with UTIs and pneumonia. 4951

@cador : The UTIs affects on the elder differ and are definitely scary. After my Dad passed, my Mom called to tell me there were people outside yelling her name. Then her ceiling stopped working from the kids hang on it. I was freaking out until my Dd (RN) said Granny had a UTI. 2 days of antibiotics and she was fine, but several months later her stories had me beating my head on the
wall........UTI. My Dh got a strange call from his Dad, making no sense. He sounded drunk, but he doesn't drink (diabetic). I told him UTI and the clinic confirmed it. It is really crazy!!!!

I used to say I wish the kids had control panels so we knew exactly what they needed. The cycle of life continues-now I need the control for my Mom and FIL.

Take care and I pray your Mom is feeling better really soon. Please update. 4951

@cador : So sorry @cador 😢 Utis make elderly people nuts. Saw it my Mom and my Dad!!! I guess the bacteria messes with the body and makes them hallucinate.. Maybe talk to the Dr about cranberry supplements?? I know IF I keep up my doses they help me. Never had an issue until menopause. After that to put it PC- tissues shrank and left the urethra exposed abs susceptible to bacteria- thus UTI. Very common in elderly women- esp if they are hydrated. I feel for you taking care of an elderly parent!! 4951

@cador : Do you or any family member have medical power of attorney for your mom? If you have it with you at all times, any medical facility can speak with you about specifics. A hospital can help you get it if your mom is coherent. Medical personnel can lose their jobs for breaking HIPPA rules. It is frustrating for the caretakers, but for the patient's privacy. Keep being an advocate for your mom. I have been in your position and you have to be relentless. You are a great son. 4951

@muffy :
Good question, as it's time, or actually way past time to get that done. My cousin is a family law atty and CC'd me on her emails with her atty friend (I don't know what they call that specialization) where she emailed us all the forms she thought we would need (directive, a cpl different POA's etc) but we haven't done anything yet, she even offered to set an appt to discuss everything. I've got a sis who hadn't been in my moms life in atleast 10 yrs. I tell mom if anything happens, not sure how that works 100%, but sis will be involved somehow if we don't have the proper PW, scares the hell out her. 4951

@cador : Is. Your mom still in the hospital? If so, you can ask for the clergy to help you get power of medical attorney if she is coherent. Family members don't understand they need to show it every visit, whether it is a nurse, the business office, medical records, etc. If she has been discharged, a lawyer can do this for you. PM me if you have any questions! 4951

@muffy :
No, she got out today, still acting a lil goofy but as soon as she starts acting more like herself, I'm going to bring her to my cousins friend that's an atty and get her to sign everything, she knows it's important.
Thx, and I will if I have a question or two! 4951

@cador : Good deal. My dad died last November. I did not get one and luckily did not have problems. When you get the document, keep it in your car and with you at all times. It needs to be shown every visit, every time! Circumstances change. I pray she is back to herself soon. 4951

cador : I work for a local doctor here in kingwood. If your name is not on the list of people we are allowed to speak with ,on the hipaa form, over the patients medical records then sorry there is nothing we can say. if the patient somehow wants to allow you to be able to know any of their information but maybe forgot to put you on the hipaa form then we tell the patient they need to come up to the office and fill out another form. it has to be done in office as in anyone can sign the papers and fax them over so its not trust worthy.

@yankeejessica : I work for a medical insurance company. Well said there J from up north. 4951
