No one on this thread was doing that. If you think that's all moves do, then don't watch and don't comment unless you are answering the question.

#msg6041108"Steven Spielberg says it so it's true."

gmankw : I never said that, don't put words in my mouth - read the actual message rather than immediately going to an insult. Spielberg made this movie, with this message, because he genuinely believes it. To dismiss it as "prole propaganda" is overly simplistic, IMO. Everyone can make their own decisions about whether Spielberg's message is true or not…nothing I said gave any opinion at all on whether I thought his message is true or not.

I see evil in many of his projects. We may define evil differently. I don't see evil in something I see some have issues with, the medical developments arrived from the use of tissue from a long time ago abortion. Some do.

I believe empathy is a product of personal experiences. You are not born empathetic. It can be good and it can be bad based on those encounters that shape your personal empathy.

Today France's CESE, a government organization issued a report that addresses well managed immigration as essential to addresses its aging population, decreased fertility rates and shrinking workforce. Not one of those factors is absent in our society. They too have xenophobes.

#msg6040829KingwoodNana : My therapist tells me I am an empath. I think she is right. I often feel as though my empathy is a weakness. People can take advantage of me and I can easily get my feelings hurt. It was very uncomfortable to start posting on this forum and opening up. But I think it helps me in the long run. When I am with someone it is easier to know what they are trying to say than just reading their words. I usually just call people and talk so it is easier to reassure people I am no threat over the phone than when I type words. But I need that practice. I need to learn how to see it as a strength.

MrsC67 : I am glad you see empathy as a strength now. It makes me happy to see and read posts that come across as genuine. I look forward to reading your future posts.

#msg6041098MrsC67 : I know I said I wouldnt reply, but I dont think this reply will hurt. I am also an empath. With all the suffering that goes with it. Political disagreements cut sharp for me and I am sure I get carried away.

sebastian2 : We may disagree about our political stances. But, I know you are a very good person. After all said and done isn't that is what matters.

There is nothing wrong with making an 'emotional' choice. In the case of immigration, the immigrants need to consider coming IF they assimilate to our language/rules. My grandpa came through Ellis Island July 2, 1913. His mom and dad pushed him out the door to safety. They already had a son that was a Grenadier ............they did not want another son that could possibly be killed in WWI which was rumored to occur all over Europe back then. He studied English language, and became a US citizen. He kept traditions from the old country, BUT assimilated to the NEW WORLD. Our government misled many.....which was not EMPATHY. I will stop here.

We are in deep trouble if there is no empathy. But that also means being smart, not nieve. You really can not understand life, people until you walk a.mile in someone's shoes. Gives you a really different perspective.
We are in a nursing shortage crisis. If we dont have nurses from other countries-- especially the Philippines, we are screwed. Our.fruit doesn't get picked unless we have migrant workers. Its a double edged sword. Hospitals have e almost.closed because they are seeing so many people not from our country. Some schools dont have enough paper because they are weighed down by children they don't get credit for state and federal funds.
However-- a wasted billion here, a billion there would sure go along way. To helping ALOT of people.

I see the use of the assimilation concept being used differently based on anti or pro immigration attitudes.
If anti, it's to demand instant and total. IMO that's unrealistic and contrary to how it has worked through history. Migrants enter slowly, society adopts from the migrants slowly. But it happens. The result is the melting pot. Now I want pho, the Vietnamese soup that is their version of the French pot a feu.

Xenophobia is destroying basic home and nursing home care availability and pricing. The effects are first to the least populated areas but they'll be here soon. The yelps will give some a sense of schadenfreude while feeling the pain too.

Work sponsored visas should definitely be easier in critical fields. Employers should also be obligated to pay them as much as citizens minus fees paid for visas.
