Cbear : I am encouraged to read that - our bill for August was nearly $1000. I shut off the sprinkler system and September it dropped by $800. What repair company did you use? And how did you get them to refund you? I didn't think that was possible.
NonaT5 : Eeek! Sorry for you friend. Well, I don't recall who I used to repair as it was many years ago. That said, any reliable company get be of assistance. You can even post on here asking for recommendations of companies. I trust those who have actually USED them vs reviews online. Anyway, they come out and inspect. It may be easier right now since the ground is dry. Wet spots and lush green grass is a hint of where for them to start looking. They locate, dig and repair. Take receipt and send a copy to COH water dept. I think you can file a dispute online even. My bill was $800 and they asked me if I wanted to just pay a part of it until everything was settled. I said no because I could see that getting really mixed up. If you can, I would suggest paying it in full, submit paperwork and then...keep calling and bugging them as they took 3 months to refund me! They look at the previous years usage to figure out how much you normally use per month and will adjust from there. Good luck. It is not easy "fighting city hall".
Ronstang : My water bill is consistently $500+ monthly! I've had a plumber check for leaks - nope. I've had my sprinkler system checked for leaks - nope. Checked the pool for leaks - nope. I've called the city (multiple times) with no luck! We are a family of 4, with one in college, so 3 most of the time. We run our sprinkler 2x a week and have a small yard. Any advice or insight you can offer is welcome.

mrscook429 : Saw mine last night and was quite surprised. Last month was $620 and this months $268! I asked DH what he thought it was and guessed $700. This never happens! Sorry about your bill.
Ronstang : Wrong. CoH blatantly does this to EVERYONE, randomly, across the city. When reported for water meter checks, the CoH never comes out and does it. It is blatant corruption by Public Works and City of Houston. Same routine arguing with them for everyone. They do it to Apartment complexes with no leak and routinely 5X+/- their bills . . . NO LEAKS and NO ADDED CONSUMPTION.
Not sure how anyone can keep getting high water bills. Does everyone have leaks or just keeps the water/toilet running 24 hrs a day. My highest this summer was $53.94 in August due to watering the garden and grass. Seems something is wrong somewhere.
UptownGirl : Does your bill come from the City of Houston or a Mud district? I have a Mud District and mine is never over 75.00 and that is when I have to add water to my pool... I also have sprinklers that run every morning.. I honestly do not trust the City. « Back to Chat
