once you turn 65, there are huge exemptions that almost alleviate school taxes. Most people who retired years ago, pay nothing. More current retirees are only paying minimal amounts. Of course your appraisal /value of your home and when you retire enter into it.

I have long said that if you do not have children in HISD, you shouldn't have to pay taxes. Mine have been out for 15 years. I have been paying for 25 years. I too...am sick of it. Don't have a dog in this race. JMO. Showing myself out now.

Cbear : For that system to work parents would have to pay the total cost of educating their kids for 13 years.

Capybara : It's a terrible idea. It's basically getting rid of public education. You should only have to pay if you have kids in school is private education.

Taking this nonsense about the not wanting to pay school taxes a bit further...
So, when your kids were in public school, then you and only the other parents pay school taxes?
If you don't need the police or fire services, then you should get a rebate on your Harris County taxes?
If you burn your garbage on your front lawn, should you get a rebate for not using COH trash services?
If you (insert your ideas here), should get a rebate for that too?

Rhe real estate market values are affected by the schools. Ask any real estate professional. I have no children in Humble ISD. I know I can get a beeter price because of it.
