Job Overview
The Tax Staff Accountant will provide support for and preparation of various tax returns and participate in various accounting projects, in order to provide quality services and deliverables to our clients.
Objective
The Tax Staff Accountant will participate in, or manage, a variety of tax, accounting and payroll functions. This position is blended with the Client Service Coordinator position, and will also require supporting the administration needs of the firm. The ideal candidate will have strong technical and communication skills to coordinate with peers, managers and clients to ensure timely, quality delivery of both simple and complex tax projects. This position requires strong analytical skills and attention to detail. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to significantly expand their knowledge of accounting, payroll and tax. Responsibilities
• Complete monthly/quarterly bookkeeping for business and individual clients
• Assist with admin responsibilities, as needed. This includes, but is not limited to:
preparing and sending tax returns for signature, filing signed returns (e-file or paper-filed), daily communication with clients, Client visits and Post Office trips, invoicing/billing
• Prepare tax correspondence and responses to client notices
• Provide support services for tax planning and tax preparation
• Manage client documents, information requests and deliverables
• Ensure accurate, timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns
• Ensure quality standards are maintained
• Provide support on special tax projects and firm initiatives
• Collaborate with staff, clients, vendors and management
Desired Skills and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree with major in accounting preferred
• Local to the Northeast Houston TX area is required
• Relevant work experience in public accounting is required
• Previous experience working in a accounting or tax office is required
• Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
• Resourcefulness – this position will work autonomously at times. The right candidate will need to be able to work independently and without direction.
• Research orientated with problem-solving skills is a must
• Superior attention to detail with strong organizational, analytical and planning skills
• Strong computer skills with knowledge in a wide variety of applications, specifically Microsoft Office, Adobe and QuickBooks. Lacerte experience is a plus.
• Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
• Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with team at various levels
• Flexible in dealing with change with ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
