Picked up a Hempstead watermelon at HEB the other day. Just cut it open this morning and it is juicy, sweet and ripe red. Can't wait for it to get nice and cold in the Fridge.
I don't like any fruit too cold. If it's been in the fridge, I let it sit for a while before eating it. Am I weird?
@lola: no, if the fruit sits to far in the back of the fridge, it will form ice crystals internally and lose some of it's flavor ( at least that's what we were told at produce training). When we would stack a produce cooler @ the store used to work for, we kept most fruits either in the prep area that was cool or right by the door, so to not get to cold.
"How do they get all those seeds out without breaking the watermelon," my daughter's friend asked..
@Ambyr:
Half the fun of eating watermelon is spitting out the seeds at each other. I have actually been shot at as a kid stealing watermelons from a neighbors' patch up in East Texas. He shot over our heads. It was kind of like a Hatfields and McCoy relationship. Oh the good ole days!!!
