I cant believe the US mens soccer team didnt qualify for the Olympics. Go US ladies!
No, the US Mens team doesn't try out for the Olympics. They have this thing called the U-23 team for that. It's what they are trying to do in Basketball, despite the US players getting all pissy.
IS it because our best atheletes stay with the three majors, and the leftovers stick with soccer?
No, it's because our best athletes stay with the FOUR! major sports. I can't believe how ignorant Texans are sometimes. Just, because they don't play hockey in the south doesn't mean anything on the overall country.
Here's some stats:
2011 NHL season
12,590,958 total tickets sold $57 average ticket price
2011 NBA seaso
12,181,353 total tickets sold $48 average ticket price
Also, the US women's sports are better here, because we have title IX which forces colleges to pay just as much for women's sport's as men's. And the women's soccer here is better, because around the world soccer is seen as a man's sport so women are stuck with sports like Volleyball and the sort.

GANDERIF: Looks like you may to do some further research. Maybe us Texans are not ignorant as you thought.
From Sportingnews.com: Average attendance for the 18 MLS clubs rose 7.2 percent to 17,872 spectators a game this season, surpassing the league’s previous record of 17,406, which was set during its inaugural season in 1996. Since 2007, its average has consistently stayed between 16,000 and 17,000. The strong showing at the gate brought MLS’s average above the most recent seasons for both the NHL (17,132) and NBA (17,323).

@ganderif:
95th-Minute Stoppage Time Goal Condemns USA to Third Place in Group A NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 26, 2012) – The U-23 Men’s National Team will miss out on the 2012 London Olympics after being eliminated from CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying in heartbreaking fashion following a 3-3 tie with El Salvador on Monday night at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn.
It's what they are trying to do in Basketball, despite the US players getting all pissy. The Olympics are not trying to do this in Basketball, it is their own NBA commissioner that is trying to do this. He is doing this because the NBA is bleeding money and dropping attendance.
