I'm really interested in bank track roller derby but the games are all the way down at the convention center @ 7902 Fairmont, Pasadena, TX, 77502 it's about 50 minutes from 59 and Kingwood drive if you take Beltway 8. Practice is in ...Pearland. Never been there. I have always done flat track but I think bank track would be a blast! Plus mine and DH's friends own the track. The wife actually skates.. Her husband coaches.. (kinda cool) There really isn't anything close so I'll be driving AT LEAST 35-40 minutes anyway. What do you guys think? Basically about the areas..
@kingwooddiscgolf: There are allot of different leages. There is one in the Woodlands I was told, then Houston Roller Derby, Southside Roller Derby (that's the one that has the bank track) By the way it's the STEEPEST track in America! Pretty COOL!
Houston Roller Derby always has booths set up at concerts. I most recently saw them at Buzzfest a couple of months ago. The girls are super nice. If its something you love doing though I'd say o the 35- 40 min & have fun doing what you love!
Houston has a few different leagues operating currently. I can provide details for Houston Roller Derby.
Houston Roller Derby (HRD) has been a successful league since 2005. We are an original member of the International Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) - think NFL/NBA. We abide by the associations rules, seasons, and safety guidelines for national and international athletic competitions of member leagues. Our competitive team skaters train 3-5 days a week and our recreational league skaters train 1-2 times a week.
We have grown into a league of more than 80 skaters that sells about 1,500 tickets for each bout. Bouts are held on the third Saturday of each month during the season, which runs from March through September at Bayou Place Live (formerly called Verizon Wireless Theater) at 520 Texas Avenue in Houston.
For more information please email info@houstonrollerderby.com or visit our site. We are always looking for new fans and/or skaters!
Also, while HRD bouts in downtown, we practice in the Spring area. Our practice venue is at Barren Springs and I-45, by the Lupe Tortilla. Houston Indoor Sports, 221 Barren Springs Drive.
I previously skated for Green Country Roller Girls out of Broken Arrow, OK We have been and are still ranked #! in OKlahoma!!! (but........... Houston whooped us at Regionals...) haha
So is there a league over here in Kingwood? I'm interested in joining but not planning to commute as my family comes first. Any help/answers is appreciated.
i didn't even know they had flat track, Mom always watched banked tracks.
Always loved it when on of them went flying over the rail
@FoFa: one of my friends does roller derby and from what her coach was explaining, there are very few usable banked tracks left... most of them are flat now. :-/ it's a shame.
