Playground equipment didn' have to meet thousands of safety requirements (I still remember "burning" my legs of sliding down a metal slide in summer).; it was ok to go to the gate of an airport to see someone off..off the top of my head here.

...when kid's toys were more basic and required imagination. a lot of them didn't light up, sing, dance, talk or play games but were just as fun, probably more.
