What does a new mom need for herself? Besides sleep of course.
Maybe some nice bubble bath or a basket from Bath and Body Works? Any other ideas?

Give a card good for x amount of hours.
You provide X amount of hours for her be it laundry, cooking babysitting.......its free and something she would appreciate more than any gift. Its a gift of TIME.......

All that bath stuff sounds good, but time is the problem there
Sometimes you are lucky to get a quick shower in until later.
parents, am I right?

@Ray:
First time parents hear all that stuff, but usually have no idea.
I'll just soak in the bath, take it easy, have some "alone time".

The best thing you can give/do for new parents is to show up with
a big plate of food, grab the baby and all its stuff, go to the furthest room
from the bedroom and let them eat, shower & sleep.
Give them at least 4 to 5 hours to do this, and I can guarantee it
will be more appreciated than any gift you can buy them

Hire a cleaning or yard service for them
Meals (fresh or frozen for later)
Restaurant gift cards for places with curbside or takeout
Rent a commercial grade breast pump for a month or two for them
Make them a scrap book for their first year as parents
Diapers, formula, bottles (you never, ever get or have enough)
Gift certificate to a hair salon and volunteer to watch the baby while she goes

You can also volunteer to help her write thank you notes for her shower. That was a seriously tough thing for me to find the time to get done and I would have kissed the feet of the person who helped me with this.
