Imagine if every company who provided a service depended on their employees to be compensated by patrons tips. You don't tip your grocery checker, lawn service, maid service, etc.
@wallacepups:
seriously!! i know when i was teaching there were lots of days i wanted to put a tip jar out so the parents of the kids who gave me a hard time could compensate me for all my hard work! LOL!

@xexidious: We can all understand blowing off a little steam, but you obviously wrote this while emotional. Since this is your first and only thread on KDC, I hope you will join us on other topics in the future.
By the way, I usually tip 20% as long as the service is reasonably good.
You need to realize that, as a server, you are going to get stiffed occasionally. If it bothers you that much, then you should look for another line of work or you'll drive yourself crazy. If you are getting stiffed on a regular basis, then you may find that you are the problem.
Good luck to you.

I really dont care about any of this....I rarely even comment on this site. I just found irony in the fact someone with such a condesending attitude, would be in the business of providing a warm, friendly and inviting experience while dining. @Fairlane67: same here!
@DCowboys:
But we wish you'd post more often!

@xexidious: If you had to "teach" your own parents about tipping, then there obviously is a need to educate people about servers wages. However, you are not going to get a good reception with an emotional outburst like this one.
And I have to agree with TexINS, if the service is horrible, then 3% or even less is appropriate. As even you acknowledge "tipping is an option".

But restaurants do not pay servers like most industries and though tipping is an options and it is the guests decision whether to do so or not.
Here's a question for you:
Do you think it is ok for someone to leave, lets say 3% or less, on the bill? If so, do you realize that it then just cost the server money to wait on you?
It's funny to see everyone get so judgmental over a post on a community board. Y'all have a great day and go enjoy the summer.
@xexidious: It is even funnier to see someone start a thread by saying "for all of you idiots out there..." then call others judgemental.

I have a degree in marketing and was in a different choosen career before I became a single mother.
really?!?!?!? marketing must not have been your chosen career.....because marketing is about selling something, and you HAVE NOT sold us on the fact you are a good member of a wait staff.....you have SOLD us on the fact you are a winey, bitter waitress that apparently holds her customers in contempt..........
