@JJ: Who's crying?? We are just saying it is SAD to see an animal smashed in the damn road. Should we stop the car, get out and clap? Sheesh.If it doesn't bother you, give yourself a gold star for being a cold SOB.

I am so bummed. I saw a dead mama possum in the middle of the road with her tiny baby. They were both run over, I was so upset. She was probably out looking for something to eat and got hit. I looked around to see if I could see any more babies, but I didn't see any. The baby was probably a couple weeks old.

You don't need to get out of the car and clap. You do what normal people do, and drive by, and don't worry about it. It's a freaking possum!

Opossums are North America's only marsupial...............they are NOT rodents. They do not go around killing cats. They will defend themselves if threatened when they have young, but typically play "dead" if attacked hence the term "playing possum". It was just sad to see a mother possum dead in the middle of the road with her tiny offspring.
I have rescued and rehabbed many possums, so I do have a soft spot for them. They really are great to have around your gardens, they eat ROACHES, grubs, frogs, mice, anything they can catch. With our roach population alone, possums are welcome to hang out in my yard as long as they want, lol.
